| Key Issues - Crime
Nottingham City is one that stands out the most
in terms of crime, and has been profiled locally and nationally
as being the worst in the country. Nottingham City also has some
of the worst levels of deprivation and there is evidence to suggest
there is a close link between disadvantage and high levels of crime
and disorder.
The diverse communities are again further disadvantaged
due to the criminal justice system failing to meet their needs,
adding to that there is not enough being done to appropriately work
with the young people who are hardest to reach.
NBP will try and involve the community in opportunities to influence
the Crime Disorder Reduction Partnership to start changing policy
and service delivery to meet these needs.
National Floor Targets
The National floor targets focus on narrowing the gap in the following:
• Number of burglaries per 1,000 households.
• Vehicle crime.
• Street crime.
Alongside these national targets, there are local indicators, reflecting
local priorities:
• Number of young offenders per 1,000 between the ages of 10
and 19. The LSP are further prioritising drug fuelled crime, which
is a major challenge for all communities in Nottingham, and needs
to target work particularly with young people from the culturally
diverse communities.
