| Key Issues - Education
Improving educational attainment is one of the
key priorities nationally and locally as part of the Neighbourhood
renewal agenda and targets have been set against this. Most important
is to reduce the gap between the most disadvantaged areas and the
rest of city.
Statistics show that specific culturally and linguistically diverse
communities are further disadvantaged and require additional support
in raising standards, therefore targeted work is currently in implementation
to further progress this. NBP is actively involved in shaping policy
around this.
Current National Targets
Current national targets are:
• Percentage of pupils at level 4 of Key Stage 2 for English.
• Percentage of pupils at level 4 of Key Stage 2 for maths.
• Percentage of pupils passing five or more GCSEs at grades
A-C.
Alongside these national targets, there are local indicators, reflecting
local priorities:
• Number of 16 and 17 year olds taking part in education/learning/training.
• Percentage of adults with basic skills.
The LSP are further focussing on raising the Achievement of African
Caribbean and dual heritage boys.
