Training Opportunities

Regeneration East Midlands GOEM LAA Skills Programme
These courses are of particular interest to those who work with LAA’s and cover two important areas.
1)Strategic Commissioning: How commissioning works in practice using practical examples and tools. Why move to a commissioning approach and what this means for leadership and decision-making. Consider benefits of effective pooling of funding in an LAA. What needs to be included in commissioning processes, who does it and how? Date: 1st March 2007, Times: 10am – 4pm, Venue: Strathdon Hotel Nottingham.
Guest speaker is a Partnership Director from Wolverhampton.
2) Working across blocks and cross-cutting issues: Ensuring partnerships work effectively across blocks (without creating 4 times as many meetings. Techniques to plan delivery around complex cross-cutting issues. Reviewing best practice – how partnerships have tackled some of the common cross-cutting themes. Cohesion, Equalities, Sustainability, Culture, Sport. Voluntary and community sector delivery across blocks

Discover Hidden Funding Needs and Opportunities
Free evening training for:
Funding Advisors, Community Development Workers, Voluntary organisations engaged on funding advice, Umbrella agency workers with funding advice responsibilities.
Content:
This training is an exciting opportunity to receive planning effective funding advice (a planning tool for funding advisers). Business development, trading, sustainability; all these are every day words in the business world, but how do they translate to the Voluntary Sector? More and more voluntary groups are realising that applying these ideas to their daily routines could provide financial independence and security for their organisation’s objectives.
Topics Include: What do you need to do first? How to maximise funding opportunities through planning. How to secure funder’s support maximising funding opportunities.

Professional Trainers Award
This certificate is ideal for creative people looking to gain a recognised training qualification or who have relatively little training experience. Held over two days, the free course includes the opportunity to practice your newly developed training skills in a comfortable environment with supportive and constructive feedback. It is ideal for anyone who needs to understand the basics of training practice or wants to refine their training techniques. It encourages a flexible approach to training delivery which takes into account recent advances in accelerated learning and neuro-linguistic programming (NLP). Successful candidates will be able to structure, design and deliver interesting and stimulating training.
The course is accredited by CIEH and is a Level 2 equivalent qualification. There are limited places which need to be secured by a £10 deposit by 1st March 2007

Nottingham City Safeguarding Children Board - Introduction to Safeguarding Children
A course aimed at all those who work with children and their families, or those who work with adults where there are children in the immediate family.
If you are a paid or unpaid worker from a statutory, voluntary or private organisation and particularly unable to access in-house introductory child protection training, this is for you.

Content: An Awareness raising course about safeguarding children, explaining workers’ roles and responsibilies in the protection and safeguarding of children and provision of services of children in need. The course explains the signs and symptoms of the four categories of abuse and what steps to take if you are worried about the welfare of a child or family.

The Real World: Using Local Diversity to Promote Intercultural Education
A free seminar for education staff, arts and community workers who recognise the importance of a global approach to education. The increasing diversity of young people arriving in our classrooms and joining our communities brings new opportunities for inter-cultural learning.

Through a mixture of case studies, workshops and discussions, the seminar will examine ways to help schools and colleges make the best use of the opportunities of working with artists from newly arrived communities, provide participants with the opportunity to explore ways to enrich global and inter-cultural learning and establish opportunities for creating a support network of teachers and artists from newly arrived communities.

Key Note Speaker: Adam Newman Turner, Consultant Global Education and Citizenship.
