Guide to Board Development
The NCVO and the Home Office have produced an invaluable "Guide
to board development: Recruiting and Supporting Black and
Minority Ethnic Trustees" aimed at 'third sector' organisations
who want to diversify their boards.
The guide offers a practical framework and offers advice
to organisations looking to recruit or retain trustees , outlines
ways in which an organisation can raise profile in target
communities and helps to show how the boards can change the
way they do business to help make trustees of all races, ages
and backgrounds more effective.
The guide is available to order from the NCVO at a cover price
of £10 to non-NCVO members and £7 for members.
The guide can be ordered from the NCVO website: http://www.ncvo-vol.org.uk/publications
If you belong to an organisation that is either thinking
about how you might diversify your boards of trustees, or
if you a black led organisation that wants support to further
develop and enhance the skills of your current boards, contact
Kevin Tennant at Kevin.tennant@artsouncil.org.uk, tel: 0115
950 2467 who is happy to offer support.

Voluntary Arts Network Briefings
Voluntary Arts Network (VAN) has published three new briefings:
• 101 - What's happening with the Licensing Act 2003?
- This briefing provides an update on the Act since its implementation,
and helps organisations avoid some of the pitfalls that have
arisen in the first twelve months of its operation.
• 102 - Accounting for Worth - This briefing is designed
to help everyone in this diverse sector acknowledge our worth,
both to ourselves and to others. Whether you are a volunteer,
organisation, community group, freelance worker or policy
maker it provides a context and a rationale for claiming the
true economic value of the voluntary arts.
• 103 - Health and Safety in Offices - Electrical Equipment
- This briefing explains how, by conducting regular checks
and tests, you can control electrical risks and prevent accidents.

Regional Funding Index
The index has been developed both as a web based and paper
based simple funding guide for community based projects. If
you would like copies of the document placing in the post,
please do not hesitate to contact me [Jason Pegg]. 10,000
copies have been printed in the first instance. In each box
there are 120 copies. Postage costs around £12.50 and
we do ask that people cover this, as the index is completely
free of charge. If you are in and around the Nottingham area
you are very welcome to pop into the office to collect copies,
which some EMFF members have already done. In order to ensure
that we can keep the index up to date REM/EMFF have also commissioned
a web based version of the index.
If any of the information in the index is inaccurate, there
should be additional information or you think there are additional
funders that should be included, please let me know and the
details can quickly be amended or added. www.fundersindex.co.uk.
