Key Priorities For 2005 - 2008
Nottinghamshire Black Partnership had a scheduled
away day, with expert facilitation by Karen Chouhan (1990 Trust),
and Patrick Loftman (Neighbourhood Renewal Unit), to examine the
future direction of Nottinghamshire Black Partnership. Key findings
from this day together with recommendations from Julia Mayors (independent
consultant) the following priorities were agreed:
Phase One: 2005 - 2006
1.Review communication and consultation methods into and from
the BMEVS.
2. Schedule NBP ‘Raising the Profile of the BMEVS to showcase
achievements so far and projects involved with NBP and inform the
community of current governmental initiatives and opportunities.
3. Further define and build the relationship with Community Network
and LSP identifying areas where NBP can assist in achieving NRU
floor targets.
4. Communicate Performance Management Framework to stakeholders
through new publicity information and website.
5. Support BMEVS to establish evaluation and quality assurance systems
that will enable them to assess impact within the community by researching
and designing an appropriate model.
6. Develop a system for supporting BMEVS to draw down funding and
access training.
7. Locate new office premises that allow NBP to be more accessible
to all BMEVS.
8. Carry out a review of existing policies and procedures in relation
to human resources, finance, and health and safety.
9. Establish training needs for Board and staff team.
10. Define internal monitoring systems to examine progress against
targets set out in the Performance Management Framework.
11. Undertake and lead an ‘Infrastructure Review’ of
BMEVS groups, in doing so strengthen NBP’s strategic role
by becoming a central voice for the BMEVS in the influencing and
decision-making arena.
Phase Two: 2006 - 2007
1. Review progress against previous year’s targets through
rigorous evaluation system.
2. Develop ‘Community Leadership’ Programme –
to support the BMEVS to empower and give individuals the skills
necessary to participate and represent their communities on Boards
and Committee’s that are the lead decision-making bodies in
the locality.
3. Expand ‘Funding’ provision of NBP by securing large
amounts of funding for allocation within the BMEVS.
4. Explore and deliver capacity building initiatives.
5. Develop and support groups that are specifically working with
young people around capacity building.
6. Develop on ‘advocacy’ role of NBP in supporting BMEVS
from both a proactive and reactive stance.
Phase Three: 2007 - 2008
1. Review progress against previous year’s targets.
2. Deliver programme to ensure that volunteer programmes such as
Welfare Rights are taken into the community.
3. Secure funding to have more NBP workers who can be positioned
within community locations across Nottinghamshire.
4. Expand Community Leadership programme – demonstrating how
community leadership affects community cohesion, taking the programme
into schools and colleges.
5. Raise the profile of ‘becoming a politician’ or ‘influencer’
on an area committee for example.
NBP have created a Performance Management Framework (PMF) that
breaks down each of these tasks into smaller actions for the Board,
Strategic Manager and staff team. This is the document that NBP
will use to evaluate and measure its progress and performance by.
Details of the PMF will be accessible on the NBP website in the
near future.
